FLAG

Today, we watched FLAG.  I have wanted to show it since the beginning of the year, but I was worried it'd put you all to sleep.  Since you all seemed to enjoy the first, and slowest episode, here are some links for you in case you want to see more.

My Anime List - FLAG
7.5GB torrent

I would link a BakaBT link, but some ass is DOS attacking their servers and is making me very unhappy.

This is some info on the downing of BakaBT:http://twitter.com/bakabt
Hello BakaBT community and people of the Internet,

We need your help! Please spread this message everywhere on the Internet.
If you have a blog, twitter or myspace or know someone with a blog, twitter or myspace copy this message verbatim!

I am writing this message right now as my community website is unreachable due to a continued DoS attack.
A DoS attack is a Denial-of-Service attack that drowns all normal traffic going to the server by sending a tremendous amount of (fake) traffic.
It is the bane of any website owner as there is very little you can do against it, other than hope the attack will stop or invest in special expensive DoS protection hardware.

The demand of the attacker is that we remove information we posted about his person a while ago on our blog after he did an earlier (simpler) attack.
We managed to dig up all sorts of interesting information thanks to another site (www.0xyg3n.com) which had also been attacked by the same 'hacker'.

Our site has been down for 24 hours, after which the 'hacker' promised to stop the attack and give us 1 week to remove the message.
The attack never stopped, normal traffic was able to siphon through so the server seemed reachable. But this means he obviously can not, or will not, negotiate with us.

We have thought a while about what to do, and we have reached some conclusions:
Apparently there is something valuable in the message that we posted as the 'hacker' is spending a fair dime attacking our server (DoS attacks 'sell' for about $60 for 24 hours).
There is nothing that we can do to make him stop this attack. Yes, we could give in to his demand, but why would he stop the attack then? He sure isn't stopping now. And then what is next? last time he asked for my resignation.

So, we have decided to fight fire with fire. Fight a distributed attack with distribution, and for this we need your help!
If you have a blog, twitter or myspace, or know someone with a blog, twitter or myspace, copy this message verbatim!
If this message is copied many times to many different sites all across the Internet no one will be able to erase it from the Internet.
What happens to our website and 6 year old community? I don't know. It would be a shame to loose it over something so trivial.

Below is a summary of the information we found about him (please copy this as well as that is the whole idea of this message!):

--
I also have his home IP from the comments 77.162.16.18 [...] Anyway since then I have noticed I’ve been getting hits for people doing a search for his site 0xyG3N.info (which I’ll point out has been offline for some time) I would also just like to say that his site has nothing to do with me everything I do online is only via 0xyg3n.com [...] He also uses the username roffamaffia which I suggested he should go back to using. He also uses kyuubinyuu@hotmail.com as an alternate email to the msn one.

I also know his name which is mesut baysan he’s 15 and lives in Dongen Noord-Brabant Netherland oppps. I also have a home address but I’m not going to post that up as I’m not sure if its totally correct or not. I also have some other details that I’ll save for a later post if needed.

0xyg3n's blog (not the hacker): http://www.0xyg3n.com/?p=555 about his encounter
Looks like http://gbatmw.net/showthread.php?tid=13506 they were having some problems with 'Mesut' as well.

Crest of the Stars

Hi,
Last Thursday, we watched Crest of the Stars for club choice.  This is a 1999 vintage show, and is the prequel to banner of the Stars, a 38 episode space epic.  If you enjoyed the first episode, I can only say it gets better and I strongly recommend that you watch the rest of the series.  If you need help finding it, let me know.

On another note, I mentioned that I am looking for someone to be president of the club for next year.  We need someone to take over for the next few years so we always have someone to run the club.  If you are willing to become presidnet, I can show you the best places to find shows and can even make a dub of my collection if you want it (1.5TB+).

I would also like to announce that the two trouble makers have been perminantely banished from the club.  If anyone sees them in the room during the showing, please let an officer know so we can take appropriate action.

Sampler Disk

Hi, I handed out sampler disks at the last meeting.  If you didn't bother to read it, the disk has a readme file which I have copied and pasted here.
 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Happy Holidays!

Included on this disk are some shows and movies and ovas that I think you guys should see.
In order to play most of these, you will need to install
cccp(not the soviet union, the codec pack) or use VLC player.
I have included both so you can choose.
I would reccomend VLC if you don't already use a codec pack or watch anime from torrents.

~~~~~~IF YOU USE A MACINTOSH, CCCP WILL NOT WORK~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~Go here to get VLC for MAC OS X: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

>Kimagure Orange ROad
--A classic from the 80's
http://myanimelist.net/anime/1087/Kimagure_Orange_Road

>Dirty Pair OVA
--A retelling of the 1985 Dirty Pair TV series.

!!!!!(THIS IS NOT PORN, the name just sounds like it)!!!!!!

It's a fun, wacky show with lots of explosions.
The main chars. are well known and have cameos in many
anime as well as in episodes of Star Trek.
http://myanimelist.net/anime/4200/Dirty_Pair_OVA

>Mahou Shojou Lyrical nanoha
--A reimagining of the whole magical girl genre.
It's strong story appeals to both males and females, so give it a chance.
It was also made withing the last 10 years, unlike most on the disk.
http://myanimelist.net/anime/76/Mahou_Shoujo_Lyrical_Nanoha

>Ranma 1/2
--A classic and well known(among older folks) show by Rumiko Takahashi.
The woman behind shows like Urusei Yatsura, Inuyasha, and Maison Ikkoku
http://myanimelist.net/anime/210/Ranma_%C2%BD

>They Were 11
--A lost gem from the 80's, it's supposed to be sci-fi shojou(aimed to wards younger girls)
but it is a brilliant piece of storytelling and is for everyone.
It has even been featured in the Anime News Network "Burried Treasure" archive.
http://myanimelist.net/anime/1901/They_Were_11

>Assemble Insert
--This one is just plain wacked out fun.
It's short and not at all painful to watch, give it a shot, it won't kill ya!
It was also featured in ANN's "Buried Treasure"
http://myanimelist.net/anime/2414/Assemble_Insert

>Birdy the Mighty
--This is the original OVA from 1996 that gave birth to at least 3 TV series within the last 2 years.
It's a lot of fun but has  a serious story hidden within... somewhere... xD
http://myanimelist.net/anime/566/Tetsuwan_Birdy

>Wagaya no Oinari-sama
--Probably the youngest vintage on the disk, I put this on here just because I like it.
It helps that the main char. is really cute ^_^
http://myanimelist.net/anime/3322/Wagaya_no_Oinari-sama.

>Project A-Ko
--This is another unstable child of the 80's.  It's a really crazy story, but it's pretty funny.
It's a love it or hate it show, but is a part of anime history.  Too bad.
http://myanimelist.net/anime/212/Project_A-ko

>Macross Flashback 2012
--The only piece of the origonal Macross legacy that would fit on the disk, this video contains many of the
"insert"(songs sang during the anime that are musical pieces in their own right) songs in the origonal series.
I included this because many of you have never heard of macross or robotech.
http://myanimelist.net/anime/1504/Macross_Flash_Back_2012

  --TIME FOR A HISTORY LESSON--
During the 80's a show called Macross: super dimensional Fortress aired and was a big hit in Japan.
Shortly after, 3 completely UNRELATED shows were mixed with Macross by Carl Macek & Harmony Gold
and released to the US as "Robotech".  Many of us grew up with Robotech (if you're like 20+) and from
macross and robotech came 2 very important icons.  The valkyrie, which is a quasi-realistic)
transformable airplane/robot thing, and the start of career of the Japanese singer in the original Macross series.
In the series, Lynn Minmay(Lin Minmei) is a pop idol aboard a spaceship trying to return home with the citizens
of an entire city trapped aboard.  Her songs and face are one of most recognizeable aspects of 80's.
Some people i know have hailed her as "the poster-girl of the 80's"  and she was.  Most anime fans at the time, with their
VERY limited supply of anime on VHS or LaserDisk and occasional bootleg tape that had been copied so many times, it was hard to
tell what you were watching.  They didn't have subbing groups either.  They used scripts, if they were lucky, and
had to read along off a piece of paper.  But I digress, suffice it to say that Lynn Minmay is an important figure in anime history
and Macross, with it's legacy of literally dozens of spinoffs (look here if you don't belive me http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?q=macross&type=0&score=0&status=0&tag=&p=0&r=0&sm=0&sd=0&sy=0&em=0&ed=0&ey=0&c[]=a&c[]=b&c[]=c&gx=0)
is a key milestone in Japanese Animation.

KNOW THE NAME, BECAUSE KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!!!
